SEN. FINANCE COMMITTEE APPROVES PARENTAL CHOICE EDUCATION

Richmond, VA – The Senate Finance Committee voted today to move Delegate Dave LaRock’s Education Savings Accounts bill HB389 forward to the floor of the Senate on a vote of 9 -5.

“Education Savings Accounts will create real improvement in educational outcomes for pupils, as attested by empirical studies examining academic outcomes for school choice, by matching students with academic resources best suited for them and their particular needs. It is one practical way we can offer educational opportunity to children with special needs, regardless of their circumstances in life. This parental involvement will invigorate our education system and throw a lifeline to public schools, while simultaneously helping students find more suitable educational resources and minimizing legal conflicts between parents and school districts. Finally, it will save the Commonwealth money by reducing the growth of per-pupil expenditures,“said LaRock.

Education Savings Accounts programs are in operation in Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Mississippi and Tennessee; yielding impressive academic outcomes while freeing up precious education dollars.
