33rd District News: Comstock for Congress; Budget Battle Update; Important Events this Week

Dear friend,

Congratulations to Delegate Barbara Comstock on her victory in the 10th District Republican contest. I will work hard to make sure Barbara Comstock is our next Congresswoman in Virginia's 10th District.

Virginia and our nation are daily threatened by forces that attempt to undermine the bedrock of our culture and unravel the fabric of our Constitution. Barbara has a record of standing up for our conservative values and needs our support to continue doing that in Washington.

Please contact her campaign through their website, Facebook, and Twitter, and let your friends know how important this year's election is!

I also thank those candidates who ran and did not prevail: Bob Marshall, Howie Lind, Stephen Hollingshead, Mark Savitt, and Rob Wasinger, and their families for all their sacrifices to advocate for conservative principles and make our Commonwealth and our nation a better place to live and work.

Budget Battle Update

I am happy to report that our Republican majority in the House continues fighting as Governor Terry McAuliffe and the Democrat-controlled Senate push Virginia to the brink of a budget crisis. The Senate is insisting on an Obamacare Medicaid expansion as a condition for allowing a budget to move forward.

Christopher Newport University released a poll that decisively shows Virginians oppose Obamacare's Medicaid expansion, and don't want to see a government shutdown in the Commonwealth.

According to the poll, voters oppose Medicaid expansion 53% to 41%. Independents oppose expansion 55% to 35%. More importantly, the poll shows that Virginians overwhelmingly oppose Governor McAuliffe's effort to hold the entire state budget hostage over Obamacare. 71% of Virginians want to see a compromise that avoids a government shutdown -- that means passing a clean budget to keep the government open without Obamacare's Medicaid expansion.

These are good results for us, but we can't back off now. Click here to sign the petition and tell Governor McAuliffe it's time to compromise and pass a clean budget to keep state government open.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Mark Herring continues to circumvent the legislature and the laws of the Commonwealth, unilaterally declaring that illegal immigrants are able to receive in-state tuition at our taxpayer-subsidized colleges and universities. The marriage lawsuit against the Commonwealth that Herring actively supports in abandonment of his sworn duty is up for an appeal hearing today.

I am honored to be serving, protecting our conservative values and working to grow our economy. I know for a fact that my positions and legislation make me a prime target in the next election cycle, but I’m not backing down. Please stand with me as we fight against bigger government, more debt, and vast unfunded mandates.

Sincerely,
